We’re on the lookout for an Optical Design Engineer with a keen eye for innovation and the drive for defining the future of camera and optical sensing technologies. At NIL Technology, you’ll be diving into the world of wafer-level optics, playing a pivotal role in defining the system architectures for our cutting-edge camera and projection modules and supporting customer dialogues.
You’ll be tasked with designing not only camera modules, but also a variety of optical devices such as dot projectors and diffuser modules. Your expertise will steer these projects from their inception to completion, guaranteeing that the optical design meets the ever-increasing requirements from the market. An important part of the job is to support customer dialogues by customizing existing concepts, providing data, and delivering customer-facing presentations including relevant technical descriptions and data.
You’ll be a major bridge between our module R&D and customer solutions. Thus, extensive experience in optical design, design for manufacturing, practical implementation, module integration, customer needs, and customer dialogue is a must.

Responsibilities and Duties
Design optical systems using raytracing software
Design to customer specifications
DFM, sensitivity analysis, and tolerance analysis
Preparing design reports and other customer-facing material
Participate in customer dialogues
Hard Skills & Experiences
Background in optical design
Proficiency in Zemax design
Professional experience is a must (5+ years)
Experience in designing optics to customer specifications including manufacturability, sensitivity, tolerances, and yield
Soft Skills
Ability to work independently and focus on objectives rather than just following instructions
Structured work approach and meticulous attention to detail
Excellent communication skills to articulate results and challenges effectively
Adaptability to a fast-paced work environment
Qualifications & Profile
MSc degree in Microengineering, Electronics, Optics, Photonics, Physics, or a related field
Proficiency in English is required, knowledge of German is a plus

We’re on the lookout for an Optical Systems Engineer with a keen eye for innovation and the drive for defining the future of camera technology. At NIL Technology, you’ll be diving into the world of wafer-level optics, playing a pivotal role in crafting the system architectures for our cutting-edge camera modules.
You’ll be tasked with defining the architecture of camera modules, but also a variety of optical devices such as dot projectors and diffuser modules. Your expertise will guide these projects from conception to reality, ensuring they meet our high standards and align with the evolving needs of the market. An important aspect of the job is to balance the various tradeoffs related to cost, performance, size and complexity.
You’ll be the bridge to our external partners, collaborating with module integrator companies both near and far. Your insights will help shape the partnerships that elevate our products and processes.
In our hacker lab, you’ll get hands-on, building demos that bring our concepts to life. It’s a place where experimentation meets execution, and where your contributions will shine brightly.

Define architecture of camera modules and other optical systems
Oversee and manage external module integrator companies
Construct mockups and demos in hacker lab
Participate in customer dialogues
Hard Skills & Experiences
Proficiency in building optoelectronic devices for the consumer market
Professional experience is a must (3+ years)
Familiarity with mass production processes
Background in the field of optics
Experience in mechanical design is a plus
Experience in optical design is a plus
Experience in collaborating with Asian manufacturing companies is a plus
Soft Skills

Optical Testing Engineer - Switzerland

NIL Technology is a leading manufacturer of micro-and nanostructured optical components for 3D sensor technology.
Our team in Horgen (ZH), Switzerland, is expanding, and we are actively seeking a new colleague to join our optical characterization team. As a member of the Optics team, your primary focus will be on executing the testing roadmap for NILT.
As a key contributor to project teams, you will take responsibility for testing elements and components, and provide valuable feedback to process and design engineers, as well as our customers. Close collaboration with the optical design group and process development team will be essential.
Additionally, you will design and construct custom optical setups capable of measuring the performance of our parts. Maintenance, optimization, and automation of existing setups are also part of your responsibilities. Finally, you will analyze measurement data and prepare comprehensive reports for presentation.

Support customer projects regarding optical testing
Maintain and improve test systems from lab setups to mass production test equipment
Design, build and automate new optical test setups
Implement algorithms to extract key metrics from measurement data
Perform data analysis on measurement data
Reporting and documentation
Hard Skills & Experiences
Background in optics
Experience in testing of optical or optoelectronic components
Practical experience in the lab, ideally optical lab
Knowledge of at least one programming language, ideally Python
Good communication skills
Soft Skills
Independent, work towards an objective rather than following instructions
A structured approach to work and attention to detail
Good communication skills to present results and challenges clearly
Willingness to adapt to a fast-paced environment
Qualifications & Profile
Engineering degree or MSc degree in Microengineering, Electronics, Optics, Photonics, Physics or similar
